Spellathon – Test Your Spellings

 

 

Eligibility : Junior School, Middle School and High School
No. of participants : 1 team from each segment, each team comprising 2 students
Duration : 45 minutes

Event Format

  • The English (UK) spellings for words will be used.
  • The teams that reach the last round will play as individual players.
  • The winner of the final round will be declared the winner of the competition.
  • In the event of a protest or dispute, decisions will be based on the Oxford English Dictionary, the official contest dictionary.
  • The decision of the spell master will be final in all rounds.
  • To minimize disruptions, use of cell phones is not permitted.
  • The spell master can nullify a word if he is convinced that the audience has prompted the answer.
  • All the participants will be given a notepad and a pencil for all the rounds except the Rapid Fire Spellathon.

Tweet-a-Tale – Short Story Writing

 

 

Eligibility : Middle School and High School
No. of participants : 1 team from each segment, each team comprising 2 students
Duration : 45 minutes

Event Format

  • A story written in 150 characters to be uploaded within the allotted time.
  • Topic for the story will be given on the spot.
  • Link for uploading the story will be given on the spot.
  • Stories should be original, in English, no slangs allowed.
  • Entries will be judged on the following parameters : Creativity, Organisation of plot and Fluency

Rhyme-n-Rhythm – Limerick Writing

 

 

Eligibility : Middle School and High School
No. of participants : 1 student from each segment
Duration : 30 minutes

Event Format

  • Students will compose a limerick in English within the allotted time.
  • The length of the limerick should be 5 lines.
  • Theme for the limerick will be given on the spot.
  • Limericks should be original.
  • Entries will be judged on the following parameters : Content, Language and Accuracy of technique

It's Shaw Time – Play Enactment

 

 

Eligibility : High School
No. of participants : 1 team comprising 3-4 students
Duration : 6 minutes on and off stage

Event Format

  • Enactment of an extract from any play by George Bernard Shaw.
  • No backdrop or background score of any kind allowed.
  • Participants to wear costumes as per their chosen character.
  • Only 1 prop will be permitted.
  • Entries will be judged on the following parameters : Performance, Dialogue delivery and Teamwork

Poetry Slam – Poetry Enactment

 

 

Eligibility : Junior and Middle School
No. of participants : 6-8 students per team
Duration : 3 minutes on and off stage

Event Format

  • The poem to be recited must be in English and must be memorised.
  • Self composed poems are not allowed.
  • The poem will be on the following theme:
    World peace - For Middle School
    Nature - For Junior School
  • Students can be dressed in costumes.
  • Entries will be judged on the following parameters: Relevance to theme, Voice and articulation and Enactment of the poem

Contest Quest - Debate

 

 

Eligibility : Middle School and High School
No. of participants : 2 students from each segment
Duration : 3 minutes

Event Format

  • The topic will be given 1 hour before the commencement of the event.
  • A buzzer will be sounded at 2 minutes.
  • Another buzzer after the third minute shall indicate the end of the debate.
  • There will be a judge's rebuttal round.
  • Exceeding the time limit shall call for negative marking.
  • Entries shall be judged on the following parameters : Content, Delivery and Rebuttal
